Tehachapi Sanctuary Stories

Below, find some stories from past and present residents...

"Hi! My name is Jacob. The Tehachapi Sanctuary is my permanent home. You see, I have a condition called 'Degenerative Myelopathy', so I walk a little funny and no one wanted me. With medicine (monthly cost of $200) and a special diet (they even cook for me), I am doing terrific!"

"Jewel is 9 years old, and a victim of severe neglect. She came to us with hardly any fur. Her problem was her thyroid. Because of her age, no one will adopt her, although she is sweet, loving, and now has a beautiful full coat of fur.

"Sophie is an Anatolian Shepherd who came to us because of a temperament problem. She loved her family so much, especially the young children. She became overly protective of them. She felt that anyone coming into the house was a threat, and unfortunately welcomed them with her teeth showing! Her owner was going to have her euthanized, so we took her into the Sanctuary. She guards the ranch well, but to those she knows, she is a love.

"Our newest arrival is Trouble. He was turned in by his owner at six months old with a defective heart. An ultra-sound confirmed the worst. Everything possible will be done to save him. If the vets decide that surgery is too risky, he will live out the remainder of his life at the ranch. He will have plenty of good food, special treats, wild-life to bark at, and a big pillow to sleep on at night.
