Skates

Everyone loves a puppy! At least you would think so, especially when they are only six weeks old! Skates might have a much different story to tell, if he could talk.

Skates was turned in to an animal shelter by someone who “found him” in their front yard. But when Skates was rescued from the shelter the night before he was going to be euthanized, he couldn’t stand, let alone walk, so how he “wandered into” anyone’s yard is a mystery to us. That first afternoon Skates tried, but his legs wouldn’t hold him so he “skated” along the floor by pushing his body along to his rescuer’s arms and into our hearts, earning himself a new name. Whatever Skates is missing in the muscle department he more than makes up for in spirit and determination! That spirit has infected our group of volunteers; we won’t give up until Skates is walking and placed with a wonderful loving family of his own.

This little baby is already doing much better on his feet. He is still wobbly--his front legs slide out to the sides like a young giraffe when he eats--but he romps and cuddles with the best of them! His favorite spot seems to be any available lap and he lets you know how much he appreciates your attention with soft kisses and warm looks from his dark eyes. We are having Skates evaluated by our vets to see if they can determine what, if anything, is wrong with him or if someone just kept him so cooped up that his muscles didn’t have an opportunity to grow along with his heart.

If you would like to make a donation to help cover the expense of giving Skates the shot at life that this little trooper deserves, please click here and let us know your donation is for Skates. Skates and his faithful volunteers thank you for helping to rescue a homeless dog! By rescuing a dog you are helping to prevent these wonderful creatures from being destroyed. (Please spay or neuter your pets!)

If you have room in your heart and a place in your home for the next 10 to 15 years to allow this sweet boy to reach his full potential, please contact Debbie at johnandebhancock@aol.com and complete the online application, indicating you are interested in learning more about Skates.
