Hansel and Gretel

Gretel

Hansel and Gretel remind us of two babes in the woods desperately seeking the security of home. They were rescued from an elderly couple who had had an “accidental” litter of puppies. The couple wanted to keep Hansel and Gretel — along with their other two adult dogs — but were not prepared for the financial or physical commitment required to care for four large dogs. When Hansel and Gretel first came to German Shepherd Rescue they were very timid and frightened, but thanks to the dedication of our loyal volunteers they have blossomed!

In addition to being positively gorgeous, Hansel and Gretel have hearts as big as Texas. Prior to coming to the rescue, they had never been walked on leashes, so walking them was like para-sailing for the volunteers. With time, love and patience from rescue volunteers, our twins have completed a basic obedience course and now they are a pleasure to walk. Hansel and Gretel (aka “The Twins”, “The Bookends”, or “H & G”, as our volunteers refer to them!) ride in cars very well. They simply curl up in the back, entwined like a little pretzel, and fall asleep. They are crate trained and love to snuggle together in ONE large crate!

Hansel and Gretel love to give you kisses and love. They are good around children of all ages, but are a bit clumsy since they are still puppylike, so we think that they will do best with children that are out of the toddling stages. The Twins like other friendly dogs but they don’t seem to be too fond of cats.

This is a GREAT pair of dogs who have come a long way and are eager to find their forever family so that they can enjoy the lives that they were meant to have all along. We have had individuals interested in adopting one or the other, but our volunteers would really like to keep this adorable pair together since they have been through so much and are so bonded to one another. Hansel and Gretel are going to make some lucky family very, very happy. Please help us give them their fairytale ending.

H & G are in boarding. They are desperately seeking a foster home while they await their forever family. To arrange to meet them, please contact mdalescomm@aol.com and complete the online application to expedite the process. If you can make a contribution to help us with their boarding costs, please click here and indicate that your tax-deductible donation is for Hansel and Gretel.
