Dakota is a
beautiful 4 year old black and tan female. She is AKC
registered. She is very friendly, and loves children.
When she was introduced to a one-month-old baby, she was curious
but careful. She is friendly towards strangers, but does
have a tendency to jump up on them with excitement. She will
alert you when she hears dogs or people walking by the house, but
not bark excessively.
She is an active and
athletic dog who is used to being walked every morning, and often
went jogging with her owner for a mile each day. Dakota has
some obedience training, but can be a little strong on
leash. She thrives on a routine, and will let you know when
you are flaking out -- kind of like that trainer at the
gym! Dakota can jump a high fence, so a secure fence of at
least 6 feet or higher is required to keep her safe. Dakota
is good with other friendly dogs once she gets to know them, but she
can be a little particular about the dogs that she likes. She
lived with two other large-breed dogs. She does like to chase
small dogs and cats, although she probably would not hurt
them. Dakota loves to cuddle, snuggle up in a chair or lay
next to you in your bed -- she is very affectionate and can be a
touch jealous. She is already housebroken, and loves to go for
rides in the car. Dakota's
habit of jumping the fence got her into serious trouble one
day. She jumped the fence, got out into the street, and was
hit by a passing vehicle. Her owners took her to the
veterinarian, but they were unable to afford the expensive surgery
required to fix her broken leg. The vet felt that Dakota
deserved a chance, so he agreed to help her on the condition that
the rescue would find her a new home where she would be safe.
Now, Dakota is looking forward to the day that her new family visits
the rescue and finds her waiting there for them!
